6. Tra On District
Tra On district is located in the Western South of Vinh Long province, and its geographical location is at North latitude from 9052’40” to 10005’30” and Eastern longitude of from 105050’30” to 106006’00’’. The districts’ borders on the Northern and Western North meet Tam Binh district, the Western and Western South side near Binh Minh district and Can Tho city; the Southern and Eastern South meet with Cau Ke district of Tra Vinh province; and the Eastern and Eastern North side border with Vung Liem district.
The town’s total natural area is 267.27 ha; therein agricultural land takes up 217.21 ha; population of 136.167 citizens with 68.808 female citizens (2013); the population density is 509 people/km2.

There is one town in the district which is Tra On town; besides, there are 13 administrative units of communes including Xuan Hiep, Hoa Binh, Nhon Binh, Thoi Hoa, Huu Thanh, Thuan Thoi, Tra Con, Vinh Xuan, Tan My, Thien My, Tich Thien, Luc Si Thanh, Phu Thanh.
Tra On’s distance to Can Tho city is 20km, and to Vinh Long approximately 50km calculated by road. The national road No.54’s part which goes through Tra On district is 17lm long. The network of provincial, district-based, and rural transport is invested sufficiently in order to create good conditions for social-economic exchange and development with internal and external economic centers, especially with Can Tho city. Besides, Tra On also borders with Hau and Mang Thit rivers, this is considered an advantage in trade exchange activities on water transport throughout the country.
Nowadays, Tra On still remains an agricultural district with a variety of typical products of Mekong delta such as rice, food colorings, fruit, cattle,, and poultry, etc. However, with the convenient location and natural conditions, in the future, Tra On will exploit the potentials of natural resources, and to comprehensively develop manufacture sectors and service sector, and to rapidly increase the volume of goods and products in order to gain high speed in economic growth and carry out economic structural transition effectively and sustainably.
