1. OVERVIEW - THE GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION

In the center of the Mekong Delta, southern Vietnam, Vinh Long province is lying between two major rivers namely Tien River and Hau River, 136km far from Ho Chi Minh City to the north, 33km from Can Tho city to the south, 43 km far from Tra Noc International Airport – Can Tho city. Its area of 1,520km2 is surrounded by Tien Giang province and Ben Tre province in the north and north east, Dong Thap province in the northwest, Tra Vinh province in the southeast, Can Tho city, Hau Giang and Soc Trang provinces in the west

2. NATURAL FEATURES

Thanks to the complete irrigation, dyking systems, Vinh Long province is escaped from any flood or drought and supplied with the fresh water throughout the year. It is the fertile land of mild climate with sediment of Tien and Hau rivers year by year. In Vinh Long province, there are a lot of tropical crops, especially 5 Roi grapefruit, Sanh orange, terracotta, tangerine, mango, rambutan etc and freshwater aquatic species of large output and high export value such as prawn, catfish, tilapia, red tilapia, etc.
Of the tropical monsoon area, in Vinh Long province there are two different seasons: rainy and dry seasons: the average annual average rainfall: 1,518 mm - 1,650 mm. A day has 9- 10 sunshine hours averagely. Annual average temperature: 26oC- 27 oC the average humidity ranges from 79% to 83% in the dry season and from 81% - 86% in the rainy season.
Vinh Long province is rich of sand and clay resources of fairly great output of 200-250 million m3/year supplied from 3 rivers namely Tien river, Hau river and Co Chien River. With its clay reserves of 100 million m3 in coastal areas and districts of as Long Ho, Mang Thit, Vinh Long province handicraftsmen have made various preferred pottery products suitable for exporting to countries in Europe, America etc.

3. SOCIAL FEATURES

Population
By 2014 the provincial population is about 1.041.453 people of ethnic groups: Kinh, Chinese and Khmer. With the population density of 685 people/km2, Vinh Long province is one of provinces with the highest population density in the Mekong River Delta.

Labor Force
The labor force at age of 15 and older is about 629,838 mostly young workers. In economic sectors, there are about 615,212 people. The percentage of technical expertise is 50.05%. In 2014, there were 28,648 new employment created. In term of labor structure, there are 51.99% in agriculture, forestry and fishery, 48.01% in others.

Health Care
There are about 2.360 doctors and nurses at 121 health facilities, of which 10 general hospitals are equally located in the districts, towns and cities; 02 regional clinics and 109 health care centers in communes, wards, reaching the rate of 21.5 beds/ 10,000 people and 5.8 doctors /10,000 people.

Education - Training
There are 03 universities, 05 colleges, 01 vocational schools, 16 vocational training centers and 02 centers of employment consultancy for enrollment, joint training with some schools in the region, supplying more than 26,000 workers from short-term training courses, at the beginner to professional college level; 4500-5000 employees at high school, college and university levels every year.

Culture
The geographical location and long history of three ethnics of Kinh, Khmer, Chinese have been making Vinh Long culture characterized. There are a lot of historical and cultural relics such as the Long Ho citadel, Cong Than Vinh Long Shrine, Tan Giai Temple, Tan Hoa Temple, Van Thanh Vinh Long Shrine Memorial Park of Late Chairman of Council of Minister Pham Hung, Memorial Park of Late Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet, Memorial Park of late Professor, Academician, Hero of Labor Tran Dai Nghia, Cai Ngang historic revolutionary relics etc.
